Navy Care Package Rules - Airmen from the 455th Expeditionary Intelligence Operations Management Office place boxes and envelopes for personnel at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. (US Air Force/Senior Airman Chris Willis.)

Receiving a home care package can be a real morale booster for deployed service personnel. We've come a long way since the deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan began in the early 2000s, and most deployed service members need nothing. But everyone loves receiving email!

Choosing and planning the contents of your package will also help you feel closer to your loved ones. Service members will certainly appreciate anything you can send, but there are important - and unsendable - items. Before you put together a care package for your service provider, find out what they're looking for and see if there are any restrictions on what you can send.

Know the schedule. Priority mail usually takes 10 to 14 days to reach the destination country. Depending on the location of the service agent, it may take more time before the package reaches them. When choosing what to ship, keep potential packaging delays and weather conditions in mind.

See package size and weight limits. Packages must not exceed 108 inches in total circumference (overall width plus total length), but service member units may have weight limits. These restrictions may change when you change your group location. It's best to limit your maintenance package to the size of your shoe box. You can get a free discount letter at the post office. Use #4 or #7 size frames.

Add a table. Add the name of the recipient and your name on the card. That way, if the package is damaged in transit and the contents spilled, the mail carrier knows what to return.

Avoid potential leaks. A heavy slide may collapse or leak into a plastic bag. A freezer bag works well, and service personnel can find other uses for the bag.

Use reusable packaging materials. Mix the delicates with a little flour. A copy of the local newspaper, a plastic bag filled with corn, a small toy filled with beans (for local child care workers), or anything else you think your workers could use.

Enter the full address. The address should include the service member's full name (with or without rank or rank), location, and APO/FPO (Air/Army Post Office or Fleet Post) address. If one is assigned, make sure it has the unit name, such as battalion, ship, squadron, squadron, along with the nine-digit zip code.

Number your package and letter. Some may take longer to arrive. Counting them alerts your service staff to letters and packages that are still in progress.

Remember the weather. Do not send perishable items in hot weather during the spring or summer. Avoid shipping items that can harm the environment, such as Iraq, during the warmer months. Between winter and spring, the weather warms up quickly, and temperatures inside the mailbox can exceed 120 degrees.

Confirm your vacation time. If you're mailing during the holidays, check the USPS' annual published shipping times to make sure your package arrives on time.

Powdered drink mix. Service personnel appreciate anything that can be mixed with water. During the colder months, send hot drinks such as cocoa, instant coffee, tea bags and cream. In the warmer months, you can mix in a sweet drink like lemonade and iced tea.

Food supplements. Anything that can be mixed with MREs (meals ready to eat), such as ramen noodles, seasoning salt, a dollop of hot sauce, mustard, relish, and pickles.

Fast protein. Energy bars, tuna, sardines, beef or summer sausage. Make sure the meat has the USDA beef label.

Snacks. Look for small, sturdy containers of chips, chips, and nuts. Because the containers are large, they are easy to transport. Avoid bags that burst under pressure. If you're sending a large bag or container, include a small zip-top bag so that service personnel can pack small food items to carry. Sweet bread, cheese and pastries are a must. Salty snacks are perfect for desert placements, especially during the summer months, as they encourage your employees to drink more water.

Candy and gum. Avoid chocolate if service personnel are in hot weather. It melts with heat. Gummies and other candies will be soft and chewy, so ship them in a zip-top plastic bag. Send lots of extra stuff for service members to share, especially if it involves children.

If you find your service members need essential items, choose small containers of personal care products and avoid aerosol cans. To prevent liquid leakage, cover the lid of the container with plastic and reseal it before shipping.

Personal care. Specially formulated baby sprays, eye drops, lip balms, face washes, aspirin or other pain relievers, and feminine hygiene products.

What's Rank Got To Do With It? Everything

There is a hand warmer. Send these in winter if the service staff is cold. Fingerless gloves, socks, and long underwear are also good ideas.

Cotton shoes and underwear. Make sure clothes are made of 100 percent cotton, not cotton blends.

Be sure to include a special note or note about the home in each care package. Pictures, photos and DVDs of your work from home will make your staff feel at ease. Here are some other ideas:

Also, staying at a good price can be a good idea, especially if you have an extra room in the price package.

What Not To Send In A Military Care Package? Think To Know

Battery. The size of the AA and D batteries is very important. If you are transporting a battery-operated device, remove the battery to prevent accidental ignition of the device during transport. Please note: You cannot ship lithium-ion batteries.

Writing materials. Paper, envelopes, pens, pencils and stamps. Maybe an envelope with a special stamp for yourself.

Depending on where the service member is located, there may be items that you cannot ship. If your server is located in the Middle East or the Persian Gulf, you must not post anything that contains Islam or pork, pornographic material, anti-Islamic religious material, nudity or nudity, pornographic or sexual content. , alcohol or unauthorized political material. Check with your Key Volunteer, Ombudsman or Family Support Team point of contact for details of additional restrictions.
