Glock 43 Vs Sig 365 - Ever since Sig's new P365 micro compact pistol was announced, I've been anticipating its arrival. At the SHOT Show, I had the pleasure of handling the gun in the Sig Sauer booth, but I didn't get a chance to shoot it on range day. Apparently, Sig Sauer has their own day and does not participate in industry day at the range. Lesson learned. Luckily, my local gun shop put aside their first P365 until I could buy it. I have carried a single stack Glock 43 since it arrived on the scene and it has been a pleasure. Will the new Sig P365 replace my tried and true bell? Because of the similarities between these two excellent pistols, I will dive into them a bit and explain the differences.

Looking at the dimensional information above, you can't deny that the two guns bear a striking resemblance. What distinguishes them, in my opinion, is; Ability, visibility and cost. And don't forget about the trigger feeling. There is no metric for this part but I can tell you that the stock sig trigger has a smoother pull and a cleaner break than the factory bell trigger. Unfortunately, more than half of my Glocks have aftermarket triggers because of this.

Another striking difference is the visuals. Sig was kind enough to include a set of XRAY3 day/night sights. With a bell, you get a standard $12 plastic sight. These are strong factors to consider when comparing the price difference of the micro-compact pistols.
Dimensionally speaking, the Sig measures 31/32″ at the mag well. The bell measures 7/8" in the same area. The small difference is what Sig engineers used to fit the steel double stack magazine into the polymer grip. Resulting in a nearly identical gun that carries 4 more rounds of 9mm than the Glock 43. That being said, I still love how the Glock feels in my hand. Although the dimensions are similar in width, the grip on the bell is much larger front to back, fitting my hand a little better. The Sig feels smaller and the grip angle is slightly perpendicular to the slide compared to the angle of the Glock 43.
The lengths of the two barrels are within .29″ each and I have not noticed any measurable difference in the quality of shooting protection you can do with these guns. Let's just say they are not targeted. The SIG states in the documentation that the chamber and barrel are +P rated. I noticed that the barrel walls on the sig are thicker than the bell. But I have been shooting +P ammunition in my Glock 43 for years with no issues. Both pistols include a straight fit magazine as well as a magazine with a small extension. Extensions do not add additional magazine capacity. However, Sig sells a factory +2 extended magazine which I now have in order. Allowing 12 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber which is double the capacity of the Glock 43.
Although the Bell feels a little more comfortable in my hand, I don't believe it's a strong argument for not using the Sig as my daily carry. As you can see in the short video below, there is no substitute for position. Additionally, the effects and night vision make the P365 a clear winner in my book. Sig also incorporated a proprietary rail groove on the frame. Rumor has it that Sig Electro Optics is working on a light/laser combo. The only problem I have now is finding a good IWB holster for this new pistol. At the time of writing, neither Alien Gear nor Bravo Concealment (my two favorites) offer one. But I received one of the Hazmat Holsters that I just ordered.

I really like the look of this little subcompact. It is very small, close to the size of a bell 43. Very thin although it holds 10 rounds + 1 in the chamber. I actually thought the P365 was a really good concealed carry pistol based on size and capability alone.
It is easy to conceal and I call it a true pocket gun. I actually didn't end up using the belt buckle. Instead, I used a sticky pocket holster. It worked especially in the summer wearing shorts. Compared to some others, the P365 stock mags are better than the 6 & 7 rounds of others. I have always felt a slight draw when carrying less than 10 rounds in my first defense gun. The P365 solves this with panache and lets me have 10 rounds in a crazy little package.

As with most pistols, accuracy is largely determined by the shooter. The P365 was good with accuracy. No wild shots or anything like that. The visuals work very well, but they are a little small for the optics.
Recole is really fun. But that's something I expect from every subcompact pistol I test. The short barrel length doesn't do it any favors when it comes to kicking. I won't hold that against Sig though.
I found the reliability very satisfactory. I had another malfunction, but I think it may be a handling issue caused by me. I trust this gun to perform well in really bad conditions considering I practice with it every day.
It's not too expensive at $599.99 MSRP. It may seem a little small for such a small gun, but you'll definitely get your money's worth with the P365.
